KANPUR: Metropolitan magistrate Aditi Jain on Wednesday granted two days police custody remand of four accused–namely Hayat Zafar Hashmi, Javed, Mohd Rahil and Mohd Sufyian. The police submitted before the court to grant police custody of the accused because they have to explore more truth about the June 3 violence which had taken place at Parade and its adjoining areas.
On June 3 after Friday’s prayer, a violent unrest took place in Parade near Chandreshwar ka Hata in which, as per the police investigation, Hayat Zafar Hashmi was the mastermind of the violence, and he was assisted by three others. On Tuesday, the police had preferred an application in the court requesting police custody remand of all four persons. The court, after hearing the arguments of prosecution and defence, granted two days police custody remand of all the four persons. The prosecution had sought five days police custody remand of all the four accused.
Kanpur Police had earlier taken them in police custody for 52 hours on Saturday last and presented them before the jail authorities on Monday noon. During this period, the police claimed that the accused had given true statements regarding the violence. The prosecution submitted before the court due to second Saturday and Sunday, the police could not interrogate the accused regarding money transactions to the tune of crores in the bank accounts of the accused, specially Hayat Zafar Hashmi. The police would take him under its custody on Thursday morning.
