Kanpur : Demonstrations were held in Auraiya and Unnao districts on Thursday regarding the government’s short-term recruitment scheme, Agnipath’.
In Auraiya, more than 50 youths gathered in front of the district hospital on Thursday afternoon in protest against the scheme. They raised slogans demanding the rollback of the short-term recruitment scheme.
On information, the Sadar Kotwali police rushed to the spot and listened to their demands. Police officials later pacified them and asked them to return home.
Similarly, a group of youths protested at Marhala crossing in Unnao district on Thursday.
The police somehow pacified the protesting youths and assured them of forwarding their demands to the authorities concerned.
Most of the youths said that after four years of the scheme their future will be bleak. “Where will we go, whom will we then ask for jobs? The government should immediately withdraw the new short-term recruitment scheme,” said Prashant, one such protester.
Agneepath scheme has been launched to recruit soldiers in the Army, Navy and Air Force, for a term of four years.
