Woman Marries Juvenile, Police Inspector Suspended | Kanpur News

KANPUR: Inspector Kakadeo Ram Kumar Gupta and outpost in-charge Pandu Nagar Sher Singh have been suspended in connection with the marriage of a juvenile with a married Muslim woman after conversion of boy on Tuesday
Both the policemen have been accused of gross negligence in this case, as even 48 hours after the incident came to light, they didn’t inform their seniors about the incident. Later, on the instructions of deputy police commissioner (West) BBGTS Murti a case was registered against the accused after a ruckus created at the Kakadeo police station by the Bajrang Dal activists.
Police commissioner Vijay Singh Meena said that on the basis of the report of the DCP West, inspector Kakadeo and the outpost in-charge have been suspended with immediate effect. “Apart from the legal aspect, the issue was also communally sensitive and could breach peace in the area,” the police commissioner further said.
To recall, the family of a 16-year-old boy on Monday had accused a married Muslim woman, a mother of a child of luring and marrying him after converting him to her religion. The family had also accused a local cleric and his associates of helping the woman by arranging her ‘nikah’ with the minor.
After the video of the incident went viral on social media on Monday wherein the boy could be seen taking part in religious activities with the cleric, Bajrang Dal activists assembled in front of the Kakadeo police station and created a ruckus. Senior police officers rushed to the spot and pacified them with the assurance of prompt action in the case. Later, on the complaint of the boy’s family, Kakadeo police on late Monday night registered a case against the accused for kidnapping (section 363 of IPC), section 3 and 5 (1) of Prohibition of Religion Act and Prohibition of Child Marriage Act.
