KANPUR: Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party-Lohia (PSPL) chief Shivpal Singh Yadav on Wednesday said that SP chief Akhilesh Yadav is making irresponsible statements on the issue of him joining the BJP.
“SP chief’s statements about my joining BJP are irresponsible,” said Shivpal, while talking to media persons after condoling the death of Shakuntala Devi, wife of late Rajya Sabha member Darshan Singh Yadav at the latter’s residence in Etawah.
Reacting to Akhilesh’s statement as to why the BJP was delaying the induction of Shivpal, he said the statement was irresponsible.
He said that Azam is the senior most MLA of the SP and was also an MP and a Rajya Sabha member. “But, he is being tortured. When he was a member of the Lok Sabha, the Samajwadis should have sat on dharna in the Lok Sabha and the Vidhan Sabha with regard to atrocities against him. Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav) would also have been included in the dharna,” he said. Shivpal said that the whole country knows that Prime Minister Narendra Modi respects Mulayam Singh Yadav. “If Netaji had joined the movement, then surely there would have been justice for Azam,” he said. There are 72 frivolous cases against him, he said and added, “In such cases, bail is being denied for four months. The verdicts are being kept in reserve.”
