Uttar Pradesh: Minister raids govt shelter home, pulls up staff over attendance | Kanpur News

KANPUR: Minister of state for women welfare and nutrition Pratibha Shukla raided the government Women Shelter Home located in Swaroop Nagar in Kanpur on Monday night.
In the investigation, poor upkeep of attendance records of shelter home inmates was found, to which the minister expressed her annoyance. On being queried, the staff on duty could not give a satisfactory answer. The minister has recommended action against the staff to the authorities concerned.
The Government’s Women Shelter Home has the capacity to house around 100 inmates.
The minister first checked the attendance register, wherein the attendance of inmates was not recorded on April 23 and April 24.
When the minister asked the staff as to how many inmates are here, she was told 196, but on checking the register, the count of April 25 was found to be 194. On this the minister called everyone and got the count of inmates done in front of her. However, only 185 inmates were found to be present in the count.
The superintendent of Shelter Home was then questioned by the minister, where she asked her as to how nine people were short. The superintendent said that there are 15 children including 14 grown up and one infant. After a long time, the superintendent provided the complete count of 194.
Sources, meanwhile, said that the minister expressed displeasure over the poor upkeep of the attendance record of the inmates at the Government Shelter home. “Minister has also recommended action against the staff for their negligent attitude to the authorities concerned,” sources added.
