KANPUR: A man was seen in a video clip holding a gun and chasing a person in Kanpur’s Sanigawan area of Chakeri on Saturday, and hurling abuses at him. Recorded by some passerby, the clip went viral on social media.
Later, the police claimed that he was identified and booked.
Eyewitnesses said the man identified as Ashutosh Pathak of Babhanagar arrived in an SUV at the Sanigwan post-office in Chakeri on Saturday afternoon. He pointed the gun at the assistant post-master Vishal Kumar Gupta.
Sensing trouble when the assistant post-master ran for cover, the man chased and abused him.
The victim thereafter lodged a complaint against the accused at the Chakeri police station.
Vishal Kumar Gupta, originally a resident of Kharauni village in Ballia, is working as Assistant Branch Postmaster in Sanigawan Post Office.
He lives on rent in Sainik Vihar Colony of Sanigawan.
According to Vishal, he was working in the post office on Saturday afternoon. “Then a call came on his mobile from Bhabhanagar resident Ashutosh Pathak. He however didn’t pick up the phone because of his busy schedule,” he said.
After some time Ashutosh came to the post office and started abusing Gupta for not picking up the phone. On protesting, the accused whipped out a firearm and started chasing and abusing him.
Somehow people intervened and pacified the matter. Then the accused left the spot after threatening to kill him. The people present there made a video of the incident and made it viral on social media.
Chakeri Police station in-charge Shailendra Singh said that the gun which the accused possessed is a licensed one. “We had booked the accused under relevant sections of IPC on the basis of a complaint. Further investigations are underway,” Sing added.
