Two Cops Booked In Death Of A 26-year-old Youth, Family Stages Protest | Kanpur News

Kanpur: A 26-year-old man died under mysterious circumstances in Babupurwa’s Baghai area on Tuesday morning. Following his death, the agitated family members and locals staged a blockade on Tuesday by placing the dead body in the middle of the road.
While the kin of deceased has alleged that he has died of police torture, police said that further action will be taken on the basis of the evidence and autopsy report. Meanwhile, a case against two unidentified policemen has been lodged under the relevant sections of IPC, the police informed further.
The deceased has been identified as Monu Hakkal, resident of K-block Kidwainagar, who used to work as a waiter in marriage functions.
He is survived by his mother Shiv Devi, two sisters Jyoti and Jhanvi, and two brothers Rakesh and Aman.
Jyoti said that Monu was having an affair with a local girl, a resident of Bagahi for the past six years.Recently, the girl’s mother had made a complaint to the police against him.
She alleged that two constables posted in Bagahi Police outpost took Monu to the post from Rajiv Park intersection at 4pm on Monday. “After returning from there, Monu told the family that the police had beaten him brutally,” she alleged.
The family members further alleged that injury marks were also visible on the vital body parts of Monu.In the evening Monu’s condition suddenly deteriorated and he collapsed. On Tuesday morning, the family members rushed him to Lala Lajpat Rai hospital, where he succumbed to wounds.The family created a ruckus outside the police outpost alleging that Monu died due to severe torture by the police.
On information, senior officials, including ADCP South Manish Sonkar and ACP Babupurwa Alok Singh, along with heavy police force rushed to the spot and assured the family members of the deceased of proper investigation and prompt action into the case.
ACP Babupurwa Alok Singh, however, said that post-mortem will be conducted which will reveal the exact cause of death. “Action would be ensured if anyone is found guilty,” said ACP.
“On the complaint of kin, a case of culpable homicide has been registered against two unidentified police personnel. Further investigations are on,” he added.
