KANPUR: A woman sub-inspector suffered head injuries after some people attacked a police team that had gone along with district officials to get a land vacated for Ghatampur power plant at Majra Gangapurwa in Lahurimau village on Monday. Sensing trouble, a heavy police force was requisitioned. Later, the police took one of the accused into its custody and got the land evacuated.
The work of laying the railway line up to Ghatampur Power Plant is in final stage. In the Lahurimau village, about eight ‘biswa’ land was marked for the laying down of a railway line. However, the land has been occupied by some people of the village. When the district authorities and power plant officials asked them to vacate the land, they filed a suit in the court of tehsildar. It came to fore that that the land is government land. Recently, the DM had instructed authorities to speed up the work of the plan. Subsequently, on Monday, a team of district officials along with a police team reached village with bulldozer.
On coming to know about the presence of the anti-encroachment team in the village, the occupants staged a massive protest and later clashed with the police team. When the police resorted to mild force, the occupants pelted stones following which a sub-inspector Pooja Yadav sustained head injuries. Some other policemen also suffered minor injuries.
The district officials when informed higher-ups, forces from several police stations, besides PAC personnel reached the spot and pacified the situation by applying force. The police later took into its custody one person and rushed the injured SI to a nearby hospital for medical aid.
SDM Ghatampur Amit Gupta said, “Six families living here had occupied the land by raising temporary structures, which have now been removed. Action will be taken accordingly.”
