Kanpur: A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped by an elderly grocery shopkeeper in Bidhnu police area of the district. The incident which took place on Thursday, came to light after the victim’s mother lodged an FIR, on Sunday.
The accused, identified as Prajanand, used to run a grocery shop in the neighbourhood of the girl’s house.
“The girl often used to go there while playing. The man lured the little girl into the shop on the pretext of offering her toffee and then raped her,” said police.
The girl returned to her house and narrated the incident to her mother after which the girl’s mother reached the shopkeeper’s place, but the latter misbehaved with her and threatened her with consequences.
On Sunday, after the girl’s father, who was out of station, returned home, the family lodged a complaint against the shopkeeper.
“A case has been registered under the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and the accused has been arrested,” said inspector Bidhnu Amit Mishra.
