Kanpur: The district administration has beefed up security at sensitive pockets particularly in Parade and its adjoining areas ahead of Friday prayers. Route march was conducted under the supervision of Commissioner of police Vijay Singh Meena, district magistrate Vishak G Iyer and other officials in and around the sensitive areas in view of the June 3 violence.
Protests followed by violence took place in Parade and its adjoining areas against the objectionable remarks made by the BJP leader Nupur Sharma on Prophet. The incident had taken place during the visit of the President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, in Kanpur Dehat.
DCP West BBGTS Murti said, “We will use drone surveillance to keep a watch on sensitive areas and places surrounding the mosques to prevent any kind of trouble tomorrow.”
“We have also roped in religious leaders to ask community members to maintain peace,” said district magistrate Vishak G Iyer.
Tight security arrangements are in place in sensitive areas and with the help of electronic surveillance, police personnel have intensified its vigil and route march and patrolling are continuing in such areas.
