KANPUR: The Commissionerate Police has ordered a probe into an incident in which a jailed criminal, Asim alias Pappu Smart, had reached the court without a date and roamed around with the policemen on July 25.
The police commissioner has sought a report on several points in this regard. It should be confirmed whether the court had ordered Pappu Smart to appear in the court, if not, then with whose connivance he had reached there.
Also, it should be found out as to how many times Pappu Smart came out of the jail in the last two years and whether dates were given to him by the court for all those days.
It has also been asked to collect the CCTV footage of the area outside the Gangster court where the undertrials are kept, so that it can be established with whom Pappu Smart met after coming to the court from the district jail.
Pappu Smart is the main accused in the former Bahujan Samaj Party leader Pintu Sengar’s murder case.
Joint commissioner of police Anand Prakash Tiwari said, “Following orders of the commissioner of police, additional deputy commissioner of police (South) Manish Sonkar has been given the responsibility of compiling all the evidences from the jail and court premises to corroborate the facts with regard to the alleged incident.” He added, “If the matter is found to be true, then it would be established as to who is behind all this. The entire investigation has been focused on a total of various key points.”
On May 21, the administration had razed an illegal market owned by Pappu Smart in the city’s Chakeri area.
