Private Ac Sleeper Bus Gutted In Fire, All 120 Passengers Safe | Kanpur News


Kanpur: At least 120 passengers escaped unhurt when a private AC sleeper bus caught fire on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway in Etawah district late on Friday night. As soon as an alert was sounded, all the passengers got down before the fire engulfed the bus. The bus heading to Delhi from Gonda was reduced to ashes soon after it caught fire due to a short-circuit in the AC panel.
Following the mishap, traffic came to a grinding halt as vehicles in large numbers were stranded on both sides of the Expressway. UPEIDA personnel and a team from Usrahar police station rushed to the spot immediately and regulated the traffic. The accident occurred at around 2 am when the bus reached near Usrahar. Driver Jitendra Singh, a native of Basti, brought the bus to a halt after some passengers alerted him about flames leaping out of the AC panel. “I stopped the bus and raised the alarm. Initially, we tried to extinguish the fire, but in vain. We immediately alerted other passengers to disembark the bus with belongings. Chaos prevailed and many among them jumped after breaking the window panes of the bus,” said Jitendra further and added, “Within no time, the fire spread and the bus was gutted.” “We were on our way to Delhi from Gonda,” he said further. On information, UPEIDA staff including security officers Manohar Singh and Namvar Singh, rushed to the spot and informed the higher officials about the incident and launched a rescue operation.
The UPEIDA staff was joined by Usrahar police team comprising of station incharge Gangadas Gautam. “Soon, fire tenders were requisitioned, the fire was brought under control after about two hours of effort. But by then the bus was completely burnt. Around a dozen passengers were injured following a stampede at the time of the accident,” informed Gautam further. The passengers present in the bus have been sent to their destinations by other vehicles, he added.
