The powerlifting championship will be held in the sub junior group (14-18 years age group) while the Bench Press championship will be conducted in all categories of the master’s group. Kanpur is going to organize the national level event after four years. The first national event was organized in Kanpur in 2018.
Talking to reporters, Pathak said that there was a time when few lifters could lift 1.25-fold weight of their original weight. But now there are several lifters who can lift more than 1.25-fold from their original weight. Giving a break-up of the participants, Pathak said that around 200 lifters would take part in the Bench Press event while around 160 in the sub junior championship. Since it is a national event, the NADA team would collect samples of the players to check doping. Before the meet, an anti- doping class would be held to keep the referees and players updated.
