patna: State To Remain In Grip Of Heatwave Till Fri | Patna News


PATNA: With hot westerlies sweeping through Bihar and maximum temperature hovering around 40 degrees C, the Patna Meteorological Centre on Tuesday maintained yellow-coloured alert for heatwave in several districts in south as well as north parts of the state over the next three days.
The districts for which heatwave alert has been issued include Patna, Buxar, Bhojpur, Rohtas, Kaimur, Aurangabad, Gaya, Jehanabad, Nawada, Nalanda, Sheikhpura, Lakhisarai, Begusarai, Munger, Khagaria, Jamui, Banka, Bhagalpur, West champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan and Saran.
Heatwave was declared in Patna, Bhagalpur (Sabour), Jamui, Buxar, Vaishali, Khagaria, Banka, Nawada and Nalanda (Harnaut) districts on Tuesday. As per the IMD norms, heatwave condition prevails at a place when the normal temperature is 40 degrees C and above and the actual temperature continuous to be 4.5 notches above the respective normal for two consecutive days.
The maximum temperature was above 40 degrees C in 19 out of total 38 districts on Tuesday. Buxar was the hottest place in the state on Tuesday with the maximum temperature at 44.7 degrees C.
Patna and Gaya had the maximum temperature at 43 degrees C. Patna Met office has predicted maximum temperature above 40-42 degrees C at most places in south Bihar and between 36-40 degrees C in northern parts of the state over the next three days.
Heatwave is likely in south and north-west parts of the state on Wednesday and southern parts on Thursday. Patna, Gaya, Jehanabad, Nalanda, Nawada and Sheikhpura are likely to face heatwave conditions on Friday.
“Hot westerly and north-westerly are sweeping through the state at an average speed of 10-12kmph. As a result, heatwave conditions are expected at a few places in south Bihar over the next two days. Besides, the day temperature can rise by two to four notches above the corresponding normal over next three days,” said Kamini Kumari, an official at Patna Meteorological Centre.
Residents in the north-eastern parts of the state can, however, expect some respite from the scorching heat on Saturday as thunderstorm with lightning has been predicted in Araria, Kishanganj, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, West Champaran and East Champaran.
