Over 10k Women Opt For Antara Injection As Contraceptive | Kanpur News


Kanpur: As many as 10,007 women in the district had opted for the contraceptive ‘Antara injection’ in the financial year 2020-21 and around 3,435 women have taken these injections quarterly in just three months–April to June in the current year.
There should be a gap of three years in the birth of two children for which ‘Quarterly Intra injections’ are very effective.
Talking about the Antara injection, chief medical officer Dr Alok Ranjan said its dose has to be taken every three months, and it is helpful in contraception for two- five years. The health department has made a provision to give Rs 100 per dose to the beneficiary women taking Antara in the district from April 1.
Antara injection is available at all Community Health Centres, Primary Health Centres, New PHCs and other health sub centres and also through Asha workers. The health department has also made a provision to give Rs 100 per dose to Asha workers, the CMO said. The first dose of injection should be administered after proper screening by a doctor or community health officer and it should be injected by a trained staff nurse, the CMO added.
Nandiniof Kakwan locality, said that she had taken the first dose of Antara injection in June this year on the advice of Asha worker Geeta. “More than a month has passed but I do not notice any problem”, she said. Women who can’t take tablets can use Antara injection contraceptives, said an official of the health department.
