Nsi To Provide Assistance To Tn, Telangana Factories | Kanpur News

KANPUR: For improving the economic sustainability, National Sugar Institute (Kanpur) shall provide a technical know-how to the sugar factories of Tamil Nadu and Telangana for diversification so as to produce speciality sugars and other value added products from by-products of the sugar industry.
To seek institute assistance and for finalizing terms and conditions of consultancy, a delegation of Ponni Sugars (Erode) Ltd. led by B Chandrasekar, Senior Vice-President (Operations) visited the institute.
During the first phase, the institute shall provide them technical assistance in converting their existing conventional sugar plant into a sugar refinery of 450 metric ton per day and for setting a new unit for producing tableware (cutlery) from bagasse.
Converting standalone sugar factories to complexes producing multiple products with effective utilization of the by-products is the only solution to achieve viability in sugar industry, said Narendra Mohan, Director, NSI.
“Diversifications and integrations with other industries hold the key to success and the same was discussed during our preliminary meeting at Chennai. The institute team shall visit the site in July itself to take the matter forward,” he added.
Another group of sugar factories from Telangana, Gayatri Sugars Ltd., has also sought institute’s help in producing various bio-chemicals -vanillin and graphene oxide from bagasse.
Looking at sugarcane and sugar productivities in the region, with only sugar production, profitability is challenging and thus utilization of entire sugarcane value chain in an effective manner is considered essential.
“We had discussions with Saritha Reddy, managing director and other company officials and hope to finalize the modalities soon,” said Narendra Mohan.
