Kanpur: Mumbai entered into the final of Ranji Trophy championship on the basis of their first innings lead when their five-day semi-final match ended in a draw at the Just Cricket ground in Bangalore on Saturday.
Mumbai will play the final against MP.
The tie was declared a draw when rains hit the stadium as well as the city at noon after which the play could not be held. The umpires,with the consent of both the captains declared the match draw.
Before the rains, Mumbai batsmen SZ Mulani and SN Khan resumed the innings from overnight score 4 for 433 and added another 100 runs in their overnight score. Both completed their half centuries and were batting on 51 and 59 runs respectively. Mumbai’s lead swelled to 746 runs.
Mulani in his 51 played 89 balls and hit 6 boundaries while SN Khan faced 100 balls for his 59 embedded with 1 boundary and 3 sixes. They had added 113 runs in their unbeaten fifth wicket partnership by that time in 178 balls.
The match proved a boon for Mumbai batsman Yashasvi Bhupendra Jaiswal who had hit centuries in both the innings. In the first inning he had scored 100 and in the second innings 181 runs.
The way they were batting it was clear that Mumbai was in no mood to invite UP to bat in the second innings.
