Officials said a villager had filed a case at Thathia police station against one Salman and his own sister, residents of Dayanand Vihar, Kalyanpur, Kanpur.
According to the villager, about 20 years ago, his sister was married in a village under Rasoolabad police station area of Kanpur Dehat. She has two daughters aged 13 years and 17 years. After the death of his brother-in-law, Salman had lured his sister by promising to marry her after converting her to his religion.
However, six days ago, Salman tried to sell his nieces to a man. On coming to know about his wrong intentions, both the nieces fled from Kanpur on June 6 and came to their maternal grandmother’s house at Thathia in Kannauj.
Both the girls had accused Salman of sexually exploiting them.
Acting on the complaint, police arrested the woman on Saturday and sent her to jail, and launched a hunt to arrest Salman.
At around 11 pm on Saturday night, the police saw a car near Perfume Park.
When the police tried to get a closer view of the car, the occupant of the car opened fire with a pistol at the police team. In response to which the police also opened fire following which the attacker suffered injuries in the right leg.
When the police nabbed him and questioned him, he identified himself as Salman. “He has confessed that he was on way to Thatia to kill the two daughters of the woman, whom he had married after converting her,” said the police. SP Prashant Verma said that on June 8, a case was registered against the accused under sections of rape, Pocso Act and conversion. “After investigating the matter, further action will be taken against the accused,” SP added.
