Leaders oppose dropping ‘Jhansi’ from new rly stn name | Kanpur News

Jhansi: Political parties and the people belonging to civil society on Saturday held agitation to lodge their protest against dropping the name ‘Jhansi’ from the new name of the railway station.
The government has renamed the Jhansi Railway Station as Virangna Lakshmibai railway station with VGLB as its new code.
Besides scores of people expressing their resentment on social media, many social organizations and political parties lodged protests and started running a signature campaign against the new name demanding Jhansi to be added in the station’s name.
Former Union minister in the UPA government and senior Congress leader Pradeep Jain Aditya along with party workers held a press conference on Tuesday urging the government to add Jhansi at the earliest or else face people’s agitation. Earlier, on Sunday the Congress workers stormed into the railway station and painted Jhansi on the board.
Talking to TOI, Pradeep Jain said, “Both Rani Lakshmibai and Jhansi are synonymous to each other and cannot be separated. The government is trying to distract the public from serious and burning issues by changing names of cities and stations all over the country but this time we will not let it happen and their decision will be opposed at all cost”.
On the other hand, a delegation of social activists along with heads of different religions met DRM Jhansi, Ashutosh on Tuesday and handed over a memorandum addressed to the railway minister demanding to add Jhansi in the new name of the railway station.
