Land Dispute: Sp Leader Manhandled | Kanpur News

KANPUR: A group of people, who came to take possession of a land in Chakeri’s Lal Bangla area, allegedly thrashed Samajwadi Party leader Fateh Bahadur Singh Gill and a group of women in the presence of police.
The police deployed at the spot later pacified the two sides. Gill had recently fought assembly election on SP ticket against Satish Mahana from Maharajpur.
According to sources, the Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) had carried out an encroachment drive against eight shops located on N-2 road of Chakeri, on May 7. During the drive, the shopkeepers had accused a group of people having political backing of occupying the land in connivance with the KDA, said sources.
However, the people, who reached there to take possession of land, said that they had bought the land from KDA, said sources adding, “Thereafter, the owners of the shops, where alleged illegal structure was demolished by the KDA, staged a protest and sat on a dharna.” On Monday, the same group of people again reached there with a bulldozer and started taking possession of the land. On being information of this, SP leader Fateh Bahadur Singh Gill reached there and staged a protest along with the local shopkeepers, said the sources. Later, the people taking possession of the land allegedly manhandled the SP leader, and the women protesting along with the shopkeepers. The SP leader and four women were allegedly injured in the attack and were sent to Kanshiram Trauma Center for medical examination.
ACP Cantt Mrigank Shekhar Pathak said, “Investigation is underway in this regard. Action will be initiated on the basis of a complaint and evidence.”
