Kanpur Policemen Donate Blood For The Thalassaemia-hit Kids | Kanpur News

Kanpur:Apart from maintaining law and order and nabbing criminals, Kanpur Commissionerate Police in a noble initiative, have come forward to the rescue of 150 children suffering from thalassaemia by donating blood for them when required.
“We are providing blood every month to 150 children of the state suffering from thalassaemia disease. In one year, 2700 units of blood have been donated. The police not only saved the lives of the victims but created a positive atmosphere of blood donation in the city as well,” said a senior police official.
As per police sources, there are 150 registered patients of thalassaemia, an inherited blood-related disorder, who require blood transfusion on a regular basis.
Not only from the city, there is a major rush of such patients from adjoining districts, including Kannauj, Unnao, Etawah and Auraiya, said police sources further.
“Thalassaemia patients require life-long blood support. While adults need two units of blood, children require one unit once a week,” said a senior doctor at the department of transfusion at the GSVM medical college.
City police commissioner Vijay Singh Meena said, “A donation camp under the initiative was held at the Swaroop Nagar police station this month where our colleagues enthusiastically participated in large numbers for such a noble cause.”
“We are all hopeful, such an initiative by the Commissionerate police will inspire others, and will join the initiative in helping thalassemia patients,” he said.
