Kanpur: Man jumps into Ganga with 2 kids, saved; both sons missing | Kanpur News


KANPUR: A man along with his two kids jumped into river Ganga from the New Ganga bridge in Bithoor area of the district on Thursday.
While the man was pulled out alive by the police and local divers, his two children could not be traced till late evening. Searches were underway to trace the whereabouts of the man’s two kids.
The man, Dayashankar Lodhi, is a resident of Sabbakheda village in Jankikund of Unnao.
The couple had two minor kids, including two-year-old Shiva and one-year-old Shivansh.
On Thursday morning, Dayashankar quarreled with his wife Sita over some issue. Later, he left the home along with his two kids and reached the New Ganga bridge in Bithoor area of Kanpur. After holding the in his lap , he jumped into the river Ganga from the bridge.
Hearing screams, people rushed to the spot and informed the Bithoor police. Subsequently, station in-charge Amarnath Vishwakarma arrived at the spot along with the force and a team of divers and launched a search with the help of a motorboat.
The motorboat driver Lalu managed to rescue Dayashankar, but due to the strong current, the children could not be traced.
Vishwakarma said that an extensive search operation with the help of motorboats and nets is underway to locate the children. The police, till the time of filing this report, failed to locate the two kids.
