Kanpur: Kanpur Metro on Friday successfully entered into a new phase of Metro construction with Managing Director, Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRC), Kumar Keshav inaugurating the construction work on the three kilometre long underground stretch between Kanpur Central and Transport Nagar of the Corridor-1 (IIT to Naubasta).
After the pooja ceremony, the D-wall cage was lowered at the Jhakarkati Metro Station. Three underground metro stations are to be constructed under this section. These stations include Kanpur Central, Jhakarkati and Transport Nagar. Expressing happiness on this occasion, Kumar Keshav said, “Kanpur Metro is moving towards a new phase with the commencement of construction works in the underground section between Kanpur Central & Transport Nagar as this stretch is one of the busiest routes of the city and covers several prominent places. Construction works are already being executed on the underground section between Chunniganj and Nayaganj. It is my firm belief that our team will continue this dedication and the decided targets will be achieved in the stipulated time.” Presently, passenger services of Kanpur Metro are operational on the nine kilometre long Priority Section between IIT and Motijheel. Under the 23 km long Corridor-I (IIT-Naubasta), beyond Motijheel Metro Station; the underground stretch of the corridor is being constructed in two phases; the first one is comprising of – Chunniganj, Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha & Nayaganj Metro Stations; and the second one comprises Kanpur Central, Jhakarkati, and Transport Nagar Metro Stations. After this seven kilometers long underground section, around five kilometer long section between Baradevi and Naubasta will be elevated.
