Kanpur: The police have busted an interstate gang of mobile thieves who used to travel from Jharkhand and commit crime in the Industrial city.
The SWAT team led by DCP South has arrested three members of the gang. Among them one is a minor. On their tip-off, the police have recovered 102 stolen mobile phones. The police have initiated an investigation in this regard.
Barra police station in-charge Deenanath Mishra said that since the past few months, there have been a spurt in the mobile phone theft cases in the vegetable market and other nearby markets.
The police were on lookout for the thieves, when on Tuesday night, people nabbed a minor thief who after stealing a mobile phone of one Aparna Mishra was trying to escape in the vegetable market area.
When the police interrogated him, he said that he is a native of Jharkhand, said the official further. “During further investigation, he revealed the names of two of his aides. The minor thief along with two other of his aides (from Jharkhand), were living in a rented accomodation. They all had told the landlord that they are daily-wagers,” he said.
Late on Wednesday night, the police team along with South’s SWAT team of DCP South Raveena Tyagi nabbed both of them from near Barra -VII on the information of the informer. “Around 102 mobiles were recovered from the room where they were staying on rent,” said DCP.
