imd: Expect Timely Or Early Arrival Of Monsoon: Met | Patna News


Patna: With India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday predicting an early onset of southwest monsoon in Kerala, weathermen in Patna said Bihar too would witness arrival of rain-bearing winds either on time or a few days ahead of the schedule.
The IMD stated in its special bulletin that southwest monsoon, which normally set in Kerala on June 1, may arrive in the southern state on May 27 this year with a model error of four days. Monsoon normally enters Bihar between June 16 and 18. Last year, however, the monsoon had entered Bihar through Purnia on June 12.
A senior official at Patna Meteorological Centre said the overall status of advancement of southwest monsoon in east India, including Bihar, seems conducive at present. “Though the weather conditions in the region are conducive for monsoon advancement, we will monitor the situation for a few more days to arrive at a final conclusion ,” he said. Asked about any impact of cyclone Asani on the advancement of monsoon, the meteorologist said, “The recent cyclone will not have any adverse impact on monsoon onset in Kerala .”
Meanwhile, several places in north Bihar received light to moderate rainfall along with lightning on Thursday night. The Patna Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert for thundershower with lightning, primarily in north Bihar and a few places in southern parts of the state, over the next 48 hours.
The districts for which warning has been issued are West Champaran, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria etc.
