Kanpur: Cyber crooks withdrew Rs 1.92 lakh from the account of Syrian student Mila Zayed Mursan, pursuing PhD course from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT-K).
The police have initiated an investigation with the help of cyber cell after registering a complaint.
Mila Zayed Mursan is a final year PhD student of the civil engineering department of IIT-Kanpur.
According to Mila, she had booked a room through MakeMyTrip, in a Delhi hotel on May 22. On reaching Delhi, she found the hotel to be closed. On this, she visited the company’s website and demanded a refund of her amount. She said that on May 28, however, someone made a call on her mobile. The caller posing as a representative of the company’s fund department sent a link on her mobile for refund.
After filling the form sent through a link and submitting it, Rs 1.92 lakh was deducted from her account. Kalyanpur police station in-charge Ajay Kumar Singh said that an FIR has been registered on the complaint of the victim. “Searches with the help of Cyber cell are underway,” he added.
