Heavy Rain Lashes City, Ends Dry, Sultry Spell | Kanpur News

Kanpur: Much awaited monsoon hit the city on Thursday and poured around 8.2 mm rainfall to give relief to the citizens from dry and sultry weather. There were two spells of around three hours each. The citizens welcomed and enjoyed the rains despite water logging and slippery roads at several places.
Tall claims of cleaning the drains and nullahs of the city made by the Kanpur Municipal corporation were washed away in the first rains when roads and areas were submerged at several places.
However, citizens of all age groups enjoyed the light to moderate showers. Drizzle started at around 1.00 pm and continued till around 4 p.m. Heavy showers put pressure on the water in Sisamau nullah. Due to tapping at the mouth it flew over and water came on the road in Gwaltoli and turned the main road into a big canal.
Due to a choked gully pit entrance of LLR hospital was submerged in the water as a result movement of patients and ambulances was checked for some time. Besides that water logging was also witnessed near Mariampur school, JK Temple, RTO road, Juhi bridge, Govind nagar crossing, near deep talkies , Yashoda Nagar and various localities of Kanpur South.
In the morning movement of traffic from Kanpur South to the city was checked due to heavy rush at Govind Nagar bridge and Babu purwa bridges.
Traffic movement at Juhi railway under the bridge was almost zero as there was heavy slush and mud there. Citizens returned back from Juhi bridge and picked alternative routes to reach various parts of the City.
