Hearing On Bail Application Of Violence Accused Postponed | Kanpur News

Kanpur: Additional sessions judge (Court no. 16) Jitendra Kumar Dwivedi on Wednesday postponed hearing on the bail application of Hayat Zafar Hashmi, accused in the June 3 violence in the city because the prosecution did not get essential documents in time. The court has fixed July 8 as the next date for hearing.
According to ADGC and special prosecutor Dinesh Agarwal, as many as 51 bail applications of the accused of Nai Sadak violence were to be heard on Wednesday but the prosecution sought time as it received the case diary quite late. The court was requested to grant some more time so that the case diary could be read and the prosecution could prepare arguments.
The court partly heard the anticipatory bail applications of Syed Abdul Hai Hashmi. The defence lawyers pleaded that the police had registered three cases against the accused under crime case no. 42, 43 and 44 of 2022. The name of the accused, who is 68 years old, was not in the FIR. Then how did the prosecution identify him in the crowd of around 500 unidentified persons, the defence counsel asked.
The defence claimed that their client was an innocent person and he was ready to give undertaking to follow the conditions to be laid down by the court in case he was granted bail.
The special prosecutor in his reply told the court that how accused Syed Abdul Hai Hashmi’s name had cropped in crime case no. 42 of 2022. He pleaded that the case diary of case crime no. 43 and 44 were not read by him, therefore, the hearing on his bail application be postponed till July 7.
The court thereafter postponed the hearing of all listed 51 bail applications and fixed different dates for hearing.
The court has fixed July 7 for hearing 29 bail applications, the ADGC said.
