KANPUR: Additional civil judge Gyanendra Kumar here on Friday granted two days police custody remand of Hayat Zafar Hashmi, allegedly the main accused of the Parade violence of June 3, and his three associates.
The police will take them under their custody on Saturday from jail and again produce them in the jail on Monday by 2 p.m. The police had arrested them from Hazratganj in Lucknow from the office of an electronic media channel on June 5. The police had moved an application before the court for 14 days police custody remand of Hashmi and three others, identified as Sufian, Rahil and Javed. The prosecution in its submission had stated that accused Hashmi was a member of Students’ Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) and also had connections with the Popular Front of India (PFI). He was also involved in some other anti-social activities. Therefore, to explore all those behind Hashmi for committing violence and what were their plans, the police custody remand was necessary.
The presiding officer heard the arguments of the prosecution and defence battery for two days and the accused were presented before the court through video conferencing. The judicial official, after hearing the arguments of both, granted two days police custody remand of all the four persons.
The police custody remand will be effective from June 11 till June 13 noon. During this period, the police will interrogate and grill Hashmi and his aides to know about the persons who were backing them and also their connections with PFI.
