Gadkari announces building 7 greenfield expressways for UP | Kanpur News


Kanpur: Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari has announced building seven greenfield expressways in Uttar Pradesh while inaugurating and laying foundation stones of 364-km-long seven national highways and other projects worth Rs 14,199 crore of Kanpur city virtually from Lucknow on Wednesday.
Gadkari said, “In the next five years, Rs 5 lakh crore will be given to UP for the construction of roads. This is just a trailer, the whole film is yet to come. UP’s road infrastructure will be at par with America’s.”
“For this, a double engine government is necessary here because the double engine government under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is committed for the all-round development of UP,” he further added.
The minister inaugurated the projects virtually after the programme, which was to be attended by the deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya also, was cancelled owing to poor weather. Preparations were made for the programme at Babupurwa Central Park in the city.
Appreciating the successful efforts being made in the direction of biofuel production in UP, the Union minister said, “Now, two-wheelers and four-wheelers in the country will run on bio-ethanol made by the farmers of Uttar Pradesh. This will make the state as well as the farmers more prosperous.”
Sources in the ministry of road transport and highways stated, “With the construction of Lucknow-Kanpur Greenfield Expressway, reaching Lucknow airport from Kanpur will take less time. It will also reduce the distance of Delhi due to being connected with Lucknow-Agra Expressway. With the construction of this expressway, one and a half hours will be saved in travelling from Lucknow to Kanpur.”
With the construction of Agra-Etawah by-pass, the travel time from Agra to Etawah will be reduced by one hour. “Also, the construction of ROB at Kanpur’s Jhakarkati bus station will give relief from traffic jams of vehicles coming from Prayagraj, Delhi. These projects will also help in development of leather, glass and bangle industry in Kanpur and surrounding areas and facilitate investment and industrial development of the state,” sources said further.
The projects inaugurated include the six-lane conversion of Agra-Etawah section of National Highway-02. The work of the project started in August 2016 and was completed in November 2020. NH-2 No-02, a part of the Golden Quadrilateral, starts from Delhi and goes till Calcutta passing through Agra, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Etawah and Kanpur districts. Earlier, due to being four-lane, the route witnessed frequent jams.
“Now, after the completion of the six-lane project, the distance can be covered in 2 hours, which earlier used to take 4 hours. The route of about 125 km was converted into a six-lane at Rs 3,489.92 crore,” sources stated further.
Similarly, under the Bharatmala project, Aligarh-Kanpur section National Highway No-91 in UP through the National Highways Authority of India from Bhadwas to Kalyanpur (46.164 km) road has been constructed at Rs. 2304.74 crore. The road under construction passes through Bhadwas, Nagaria, Pilua, Etah and Gaon. And Aligarh-Kanpur section National Highway No-91 in UP under Bharatmala Project through NHAI, Kalyanpur to Naviganj (61.211km) road was dedicated to the public.
The Union minister has approved six-lane Kanpur Lucknow Expressway NE-06 near Lucknow Ring Road of Shaheed Path to Shuklaganj Intersection near Kanpur. The construction work of the road will be done by Project Implementation Unit, Lucknow. The project, in the stretch of 63 km, is worth Rs 4,270 crores. Besides, construction of an elevated corridor of 10 km on NH-91 from Ramadevi to Gol Chauraha section worth 1,000 crore, will be done soon.
On the occasion, State Industrial Development Minister Satish Mahana, Minister of State for Higher Education Neelima Katiyar, MPs Devendra Singh Bhole and Satyadev Pachauri, district panchayat president Swapnil Varun, MLAs Surendra Maithani, Mahesh Trivedi, MLC Arun Pathak along with other public representatives and officials of NHAI and PWD were present.
