Former Corporators Honoured | Kanpur News

Kanpur: Mayor Pramila Pandey on Friday felicitated former corporators, who had been elected in 1995-2000 and 2000-2005, at Kanpur Municipal Corporation’s auditorium here on Friday. Among the special invitees was Virendra Singh Kushwaha, who had been a corporator from 1968-1973.
Kushwaha said that it was the first time that former corporators were being felicitated. There were several leaders, like Babu Ram Shukla and Maula Bux who worked for the city, but now nobody knew about them.
“The Metro Rail Corporation is spending crores rupees for the Metro rail. Had it been planned from Kesco Parade to the Railway station via Deputy ka Padao and Bansmandi, then crores of rupees could have been saved and the railways land protected from encroachments”, Kushwaha said. The Metro rail should replace the old line used by the railways to ferry raw material to the mills, he suggested.
The mayor stated that she would send a letter to the Prime Minister to name the 29 Metro railway stations in the name of freedom fighters and those who had dedicated their lives for this city. She felicitated the guests with a shawl, a necklace of rudraksha and pearl. tnn
