Eight killed as car collides with auto in Uttar Pradesh’s Hamirpur | Lucknow News

HAMIRPUR(UP): Eight people died on the spot while nine others suffered serious wounds after a speeding pickup vehicle collided head-on into a tempo in Maudaha police station area of Uttar Pradesh‘s Hamirpur district on Wednesday evening.
The condition of two of the injured was reported to be critical and they have been referred to Kanpur.
UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed deep grief over the death of the eight people. Along with this, he has expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased.
The chief minister has also instructed the authorities to provide proper treatment to those injured in the mishap.
According to the police, the incident took place near Makaraon village under the limits of Maudaha police station area, when a speeding pickup vehicle loaded with a consignment of mango crop collided head-on with an auto on the National Highway -34.
Eight people died, while nine others sustained serious injuries.
All the injured were admitted to Maudaha Community Health Center for treatment, from where few among them were shifted to the district hospital. Later, two among them have been referred to Kanpur.
After the accident, the people around started a rescue operation after alerting the police.
The injured were pulled out and admitted to the Maudaha Community Health Centre and the district hospital. Police rushed the injured to hospitals from private vehicles including an ambulance of the Highway Authority.
The dead include Shyambabu (35), his wife Mamta (30), their two minor daughters Ragini (15) and Dipanjali (7), auto-driver Rajesh Verma (26) son of Prahlad resident of Ingohta, one Pancha (50), Vijay (26) and Rajulia (45), said Circle Officer Vivek Yadav.
Police said that the tempo, ferrying more than a dozen people, was heading towards Maudaha from Sumerpur, when it was hit by a pick-up loader transporting a consignment of mango coming from the opposite direction. “Two among the injured, identified as Priyanka and Rajkumari have been referred to Kanpur,” said the police.
