Couple Held Hostage At Gunpoint, Robbed Of ₹45k Cash, Jewellery | Kanpur News


Kanpur: A couple were held hostage at gunpoint and robbed of cash and jewellery by armed robbers in Mardanpur village in Gujaini police area of the city on late Monday night.
The incident took place when armed robbers struck at the home of Atul Sahu and Lalita Sahu on Monday night.The family was held captive by the accused and robbed of Rs 45,000 and some jewellery at gunpoint.
On being informed, ADCP South Manish Sonkar, ACP Govind Nagar Vikas Pandey along with the force of Gujaini police station, forensic and dog squad rushed to the spot and initiated investigations.
Lalita told investigators that at around 1.30 am, three people entered the house through the roof.
“They, thereafter, threatened us with dire consequences, pointed a gun on my husband and put a sword on my neck. The robbers then snatched my ‘mangalsutra’ and gold earrings and also took Rs 45,000 rupees lying near the bed,” she said.
The robbers had locked the doors and gates from outside while leaving.
In the morning hours, the staff deployed on the dairy vehicle that arrived there to deliver milk, on seeing the shop closed, alerted Amit, the elder brother of Atul, who stays in the same locality. Subsequently, he rushed to the spot and somehow opened the gate and door of the house that was locked by the miscreants from outside.
ACP Vikas Pandey said investigations are underway in connection with the loot incident.
“Going by the prima-facie circumstantial evidence, it appears that those who committed the robbery were aware about the topography of the house. Suspicion is being raised on the workers who installed the shuttering. A case has been registered on the basis of a complaint. Several suspects have been picked for questioning,” he said.
