Contractor Burnt To Death By Builder In Chakeri Locality | Kanpur News

Kanpur: In a shocking incident, a 59-year-old contractor was burnt to death allegedly by a builder in Shyam Nagar area of Chakeri on Wednesday.
On hearing the screams of the contractor, the locals of the area rushed to the spot, and rushed him to the Kashiram Trauma Centre from where he was referred to Ursula Hospital, where he succumbed to burn wounds in the evening hours of Wednesday. The builder fled the spot after the incident. The police conducted raids and managed to arrest the builder identified as Shailendra Srivastava.
The police said the incident was reported from Shyam Nagar of Chakeri area of the city, where on Wednesday, contractor Rajendra Pal, who used to work for builder Shailendra Srivastava, had asked him to clear payment of Rs 18 lakh. This enraged the builder so much that he, after severe thrashing, doused him with an inflammable substance and later set him on fire, the police said. After the incident, the contractor was rushed to the Kashiram Trauma Centre from where he was referred to Ursula Hospital where Rajendra, who had suffered more than 80 percent burns, succumbed to wounds, the police said.
The deceased’s son Arvind said that his father Rajendra Pal used to do shuttering work for builder Shailendra Srivastava, who owed Rs 18 lakh to his father. He also alleged that his father had also sought police help, but in vain. “The builder used to threaten him when he asked to make his payment. The builder on Wednesday called his father to his office, where he first publicly thrashed him, and then burnt him alive after dousing him with petrol,” he alleged. ACP Cantonment Mrigank Shekhar Pathak said the accused has been arrested. “The incident is being investigated. CCTVs installed at or near the spot are also being checked. The negligence of the police is also being investigated. Whoever is guilty will be punished,” the ACP further said.
