Kanpur: A Class 12 student, a resident of Takhepurwa village of Gursahaiganj Kotwali area of Kannauj district, committed suicide by jumping in front of a train after securing less than 75% marks in the UP Board results declared on Saturday.
His body was found lying on the Kanpur-Kasganj railway track on Sunday morning.
Sanjeev alias Sanjay Yadav, a resident of Take Purwa village of Jasoda outpost under Gursahaiganj Kotwali area, is a farmer. His son Surjit (17) was a student of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Model Inter College, Jasoda. He had appeared for the Intermediate exam this year.
However, Surjit secured 60% marks when the result was declared on Saturday.
Late, in the night, he left the house without informing anyone. Thereafter, he reached nearby railway tracks in Jasoda, where he committed suicide by jumping in front of the train. On being informed, the family members rushed to the spot and alerted police.
Sanjeev told investigators that Surjeet had promised to secure more than 75% marks in the exam. “He had also said that if he fails to secure 75%, then he will end his life,” he said.
Family members said that Surjit secured 60% marks. Frustrated by this, he resorted to extreme step. The police later shifted the body for post-mortem.
Family sources said that Surjit wanted to become a doctor. His teachers and colleagues said that Surjit was good at studies. “We could not believe that he could go up to such an extent,” they added.
