Chirag: Jd(u), Rjd Likely To Join Hands Again To Form Govt | Patna News

PATNA: The meeting between CM Nitish Kumar and leader of opposition in state assembly Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on the issue of caste census has created political ripples in the state.
Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan on Friday said the possibility of Nitish joining hands with Tejashwi to form government in the state could not be ruled out, two days after Nitish met Tejashwi.
“Do you think the one-hour meeting between Nitish and Tejashwi was on caste census? Who is stopping Nitish from holding caste census? Caste census is just a pretext. The meeting was actually an attempt by Nitish to save his chair,” Chirag said.
State JD(U) functionaries, on the other hand, reiterated that the CM “was and is in favour of holding caste census in the state”. Building construction department minister Ashok Kumar Choudhary said it was at the initiative of Nitish that the state legislature unanimously passed a resolution in favour of holding caste census.
“The proposal was moved by the government, and the state assembly unanimously passed it. Even the BJP was part of the unanimous resolution,” Choudhary said on Friday.
Meanwhile, mines and geology minister from the BJP quota, Janak Ram, who was also part of the all-party delegation that called on PM Narendra Modi to demand holding of caste-based census in the country, said the saffron party would not oppose the move. “The CM is the head of the government. If he decides to hold the caste census, the BJP will also be with him,” Ram said.
