Bihar: Ten arrested for lynching youth who was caught ‘stealing’ battery in Nawada | Patna News

PATNA: At least ten persons were arrested from village Gangti in Nawada district till Thursday evening after they allegedly lynched a youth for trying to steal a battery from a tractor in the village.
Police said that the slain youth has been identified as Mohammad Anjan Imran, aged around 25 years.
He was native of Sudanpur village which is hardly two kilometres away from Gangti village.
Both villages fall under Pakribarawan police station area of Nawada. The incident took place between 1am to 2am on Thursday.
The police freed the accused from villagers’ grip and rushed him to the government hospital in Pakribarawan where he died during treatment within a few hours.
Pakribawaran SDPO Mukesh Kumar said that raids are going on to arrest more persons involved in the lynching. “All ten arrested persons till now are males. Villagers had also tied his limbs while thrashing,” SDPO said.
Pakribawaran police station SHO Nagmani Bhaskar said that till now it has surfaced that the slain youth had gone to the neighbouring village Gangti with intention of theft.
“While he was stealing a battery from a tractor, villagers woke up and raised an alarm after which he was caught and thrashed mercilessly,” he said.
SHO said that till now police have come to know that he had reached alone at the spot and could not escape after villagers woke up and surrounded him.
“Police were informed after which a team reached the spot and freed the youth. He was rushed to hospital where he died in the course of treatment,” he said.
He said that the body has been handed over to family after post-mortem and raids are going on to nab more suspected villagers.
He said that till now no criminal antecedents of the slain youth have surfaced before police.
“Anjan’s family has denied his involvement in any kind of theft. They are alleging financial dispute over which he was killed,” he said, adding further investigation is going on in connection with the lynching.
