Kanpur: Special judge, NDPS Act court of Kanpur Nagar, Jitendra Kumar Dwivedi on Thursday rejected the bail applications of two narcotics smugglers who had brought ‘charas’ from Nepal to deliver it in several districts of UP.
The drug dealers were identified as Roshan Patel and Raunak Patel. According to additional district government counsel Dinesh Agarwal, a team of STF had intercepted a Boléro car near Gujaini police outpost under Barra police station on April 25, 2022. The team had arrested three persons and recovered as many as 1,650 cakes of charas weighing around 85 kilogram kept in specially designed compartments of the vehicle.
The address given by the accused at the time of their arrest turned out to be fake as Bihar police could not track it. During investigation, leader of the drug dealers, Roshan Patel, apprised tham that his father was also a drug smuggler and was in a Nepal jail for drug smuggling.
The STF later on June 6, 2022 nabbed Raunak Patel, brother of Roshan Patel. The police recovered 18.49 kg charas worth Rs 1.75 crore and some Indian and Nepal currency from his possession.
The ADGC strongly opposed the bail applications of Patel brothers and the presiding judge dismissed their bail applications.
Meanwhile, the presiding judge also rejected the 15 bail applications of the alleged accused in Nai Sarak violence that rocked the city on June 3, 2022.
Special public prosecutor Pankaj Tripathi said that the court had dismissed the bail applications of Sunny, Saqlain, Sayed Anas, Hasan, Mehtab alias Lulu. Their bail applications had already been dismissed by the court. Since the police had enhanced the charges during the investigation they preferred to move fresh applications.
