Kanpur: A police team that went to conduct a raid to nab the people involved in producing illicit liquor late on Friday night, has been accused of beating a man to death in Farrukhabad district.
The incident occurred on Friday night when a police team of Merapur had gone to Brahmpuri locality of the district to nab people involved in illicit liquor trade.
On getting information, another police team rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the deceased’s family members, but they created ruckus and did not allow the police to lift the dead body and remained adamant on calling the district magistrate and the superintendent of police on the spot and demanded necessary action against the guilty cops. Gautam (35), a resident of village Bramhapuri in the police station area, was sleeping in his house on Friday night.
The family members alleged that the police raided and caught Gautam in the night and took him outside the house, where he was brutally thrashed following which he succumbed.
The police personnel dumped Gautam’s body about 100 metres away from the house and fled thereafter, the family members alleged.
Bobby, brother of the deceased, alleged that Gautam had died due to police beating.
“We will not handover the dead body to the police until action is taken against the accused police personnel ,” he said. After getting information, circle officer Kayamganj Sohrab Alam, CO Mohammadabad Rajveer Gaur along with the police force of several police stations reached the spot. CO Kayamganj Sohrab Alam said during preliminary findings it came to fore that a wrong allegation was being made against the raiding police team. “However, investigations are underway to ascertain the circumstances under which the man had died,” the CO said. tnn
