Directed by Kabir Khan, the film which has been 4 years in the making released on Friday to an overwhelming response from the critics and audience alike. Starring Ranveer Singh as cricketer Kapil Dev, the film which tells the story of India’s iconic 1983 World Cup win was touted to be one of the biggest money spinners of the year. Though the Akshay Kumar film Sooryavanshi that collected Rs. 26.29 cr leads the list, the Kabir Khan directorial 83 has managed to post collections that far surpass other releases like Tadap that collected Rs. 4.05 cr, Chandigarh KareAashiqui that collected Rs. 3.75 cr, Satyameva Jayate 2 that collected Rs. 3.22 cr, Pushpa: The Rise – Part 1 that collected Rs. 3.11 cr, Roohi that collected Rs. 3.06 cr, Mumbai Saga that collected Rs. 2.82 cr, and Bellbottom that had collected Rs. 2.75 cr.
As of now, with competition coming in from the previous releases Spider-Man: No Way Home and Pushpa: The Rise – Part 1, the Ranveer Singh starrer 83 is expected to see sustained growth over its opening weekend. Given the fact that the other releases are entering their second week running, estimates suggest that 83 will fast emerge as the audience’s first choice in theatres.
