3 Drown In Ganga In Separate Incidents | Kanpur News

Kanpur: Three persons drowned in Ganga in separate incidents in Kanpur and its adjoining Shuklaganj area of Unnao district on Sunday.
In the first incident reported from Parmat Ghat in Kanpur, two youths drowned while taking a bath in Ganga. On being informed, local divers retrieved the bodies of both the youths who have been identified as Harshit and Navneet, residents of Rawatpur area. According to police, the two were friends. The police, after conducting preliminary investigations, sent the bodies for the post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, three people, who had come to immerse ashes at Chandan Ghat under Jajmau post in Shuklaganj area of Unnao, drowned. On raising alarm, local divers however managed to rescue two among them, while the other one was reported to be missing. Police are trying to find the missing persons. Rajat (30), son of Rajjan, is a resident of Khadra under Hasanganj police station in Lucknow. He works as a sanitation worker in Lucknow’s KGMU. His elder brother-in-law Ankit had died in a road accident on Saturday. In order to immerse Ankit’s ashes on Sunday morning, Rajat along with his father-in-law Gyan Singh and younger brother-in-law Akash, had come to Chandan Ghat under Jajmau outpost of the Ganga Ghat area. The divers said that all three went deep during immersion of the ashes.
Hearing screams, divers jumped and managed to rescue Gyan Singh and Akash while Rajat could not be traced. In-charge Kotwali Ganga Ghat Rakesh Gupta said the search for Rajat is being done by roping in a team of divers.
