Kanpur: Two police station in-charges were suspended, while one was sent to line with regard to the June 3 violence.
In a late Friday night action, Commissioner of Police Vijay Singh Meena suspended Beconganj police station in-charge Nawab Ahmed and Bajaria station in-charge Santosh Kumar Singh, while sending Chamanganj station in-charge Jainendra Kumar Tomar to lines.
Following the statement of BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, people had protested after Friday prayers in the Parade area on June 3. Later, when the police tried to disperse them, the mob, had indulged into stone-pelting and bombing.
The police had registered an FIR against 55 named and 1,000 unknown people in this regard. Subsequently, the Special Investigation Team was formed to investigate the incident and later 60 people were arrested and sent to jail.
In this case, the role of three police station in-charges including Beconganj, Bajaria and Chamanganj was also being investigated.
On Friday night, a photo of the Beconganj police station in-charge Nawab Malik also went viral, in which he could be seen standing with an accused Azim Khan in a programme.
Azim Khan was recently arrested for his alleged role in inciting a mob on June 3 in Parade area.
Ajay Kumar Singh has been given charge of Beconganj, while Vikram has been made in-charge of Bajaria and Javed Ahmed appointed as an in-charge of Chamanganj police station.
The official said, “On the day of June 3, the mob indulged in stone pelting and bombing in te areas including Parade and Nai Sadak coming under the jurisdiction of these three police stations, including Beconganj, Chamanganj and Bajaria.”
“The in-charge of these police stations not only failed to stop them, but they also did not inform their seniors about the incident in time, due to which action has been taken for dereliction of duty against these three police station in-charges,” he said.
