On receiving the information, ADCP South Manish Sonkar and ACP Govind Nagar Vikas Pandey along with the police force and forensic experts rushed to the spot and initiated investigations.
The family members of the victim-Dev-had brought down his body before the police arrived.
The police later shifted the body to mortuary and had taken the boy’s step-mother Archana into it’s custody for questioning.
Dev’s father, Dheeraj Gupta, a resident of Old Talab Khadepur Naubasta, works in a factory located in Dada Nagar area. Archana is the second wife of Dheeraj. Dev was born to Dheeraj’s first wife Savita, who died in 2010.
The police were informed about the incident at around 11 on Thursday night.
The paternal side, however, have accused step-mother Archana Gupta of murdering Dev and then hanging his body from the ceiling in order to give it a colour of suicide.
During questioning of the family members, it was found that Dev was spotted for the last time around 12:30 on Wednesday afternoon. “The child’s body was hanging from the noose for about 10 hours, but the incident did not come to the notice of any family members. Police is probing all these points,” said a police official privy to the investigation, and added, “It also came to fore that Dev was last seen with a neighbour named Shekhar, who was seen gaining entry into the house.” Shekhar runs a paan masala kiosk near the house of Dev.
“Dheeraj Gupta’s first wife Savita Gupta died in 2010. He had a son, Dev from her. Later, he married Archana about one-and-a-half years ago. Also, this was Archana’s second marriage. She had a two-and-a-half-year old daughter from her first marriage. Police are working on every possible angle to ascertain the exact cause of the boy Dev’s death. We are awaiting a postmortem report. Further action will be based on the complaint and the autopsy report,” said ADCP South Manish Sonker.
